Hallgier Øgaard, Norway
Hallgier Øgaard was born in Bergen, Norway in 1984. In 1991, at 7 years old, he started playing the piano, and after 5 years, in 1996, aged 12, he started to play the organ. Two years after this, in 1998, he stopped playing the piano to concentrate on the organ. In June 1999 he held his first solo-concert, in Korskirken, Bergen. This is where his uncle and teacher at the time, is organist. Since then he has held annual concerts in Korskirken, and have held many concerts in Bergen's surroundings. From August 2003 until May 2004, he was a student at Viken Folkehøgskole at Gjøvik, Norway, where he studied musical theory and churchmusic. In October 2003 he was awarded the Statoilprize, a local prize in Bergen which is given to young musicians. Hallgeir now studies organ and musical theory at the Grieg Academy at the University of Bergen. His teacher is Karstein Askeland.
