Chris Paraskevopoulous, Greece
Chris Paraskevopoulous was born in Athens in 1969. He received his early music education from Evangelia Hasapladaki, graduating from the National Conservatory of Athens in 1994, where his teachers included Kate Truli (Piano) and Spyros Klapsis (Harmony and Counterpoint). He has the RSM Associated Board organ performer’s diploma and is currently preparing for the LRSM organ performance exam. His organ teachers have included Stephen Atherton, organist of St Paul’s Church, Athens from 1989 – 1993 and, since 2001, Nicholas Kynaston, organist of the Athens Concert Hall.
Chris has taken part in concerts by the Orchestra and Choir of the City of Athens under the direction of Michalis Oikonomou and Eleftherios Kalkanis, the Athens Chamber Opera under the direction of Maro Petrou Nikaki and the ASMA Choir and Orchestra , as well as organising many concerts, including artists from the Greek National Opera Company and ERT, the National Broadcasting company. He is also Vice President and co-founder of the Greek Association of the Friends of the Organ, which encourages churches to restore their organs, promote organ concerts, arranges lectures on the organ and maintains a register of all the Greek organs and harmoniums. Chris has been organist at the Athens German Lutheran Church since 1997 and continues to hold the position of Choir Director at the Church of St Paraskevi where he was organist from 1989 to 1997. He participated in the Organ Festivals at the Athens Concert Hall in 1997 and 1999 performing on the IV/76 mechanical action Klais organ there.
