Mark Quarmby, Australia
Mark Quarmby gained his Bachelor of Music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying organ with Norman Johnston and piano with Marjorie Hesse. He is President of the "Organ Society of Sydney" and Assistant Organist of St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney. He teaches organ, piano and musicianship in the Cathedral Choir School and privately, examines for ANZCA and is repetiteur for the Collegium Musicum at the University of NSW. He has toured Europe several times playing recitals featuring Australian organ music and lecturing on Australian organs and composition. He toured Europe with the choir of Newington College in 1986 and in 1995 toured the UK with the choir of St Andrew's Cathedral playing in St Paul's, London; Salisbury; Winchester; Oxford; Lichfield Cathedrals and St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. In 1997 Mr Quarmby toured France exploring four centuries of French organ building and later that year toured Germany and Switzerland giving recitals.
Mr Quarmby has recorded for CD, radio and television (including with the Queen) and regularly gives recitals in Sydney, having played at the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Town Hall. He has given recitals throughout Australia and New Zealand (including the Town Halls of Melbourne, Adelaide, Wellington and Auckland) and has been a soloist for the "Melbourne International Festival of Organ and Harpsichord" several times.
